prodj5

Looks can be deceiving in the wide world of software. Coming into the fight looking like a contender with its customizable interface, simple to use functions, and multiple decks, prodj5 has shown that it’s not quite ready to take on the competition. Giving it credit by daring to challenge the heavyweights, this program shows that it has the potential to become a contender in the championship of DJ software. By improving its technique and performance this software can be well on its way to the title.

‘ for(i = 0; i ‘; } s += ” if (google_ads[0].bidtype == “CPC”) { google_adnum = google_adnum + google_ads.length; } } document.write(s); googads = google_ads.length; return; } google_ad_client = ‘pub-1894578950532504′; google_ad_output = ‘js’; google_ad_type = ‘text_html’; google_feedback = ‘on’; google_skip = google_adnum; document.write(“

Design Features:

The interface is equipped with large, easy-to-use buttons that make it simple to navigate your way through the mixing and djing process. However, the learning curve with the actual system is bigger than any other program tested.

A feature that we really loved was the simple skin customization. With six different skins to select from, you will always be happy with the look of your program. From red and black, blue and green and even a faux wood skin, your interface will always serve up the most optimal style.

Its claim of having automatic beat-matching feature didn’t work for us. The system was very slow to respond in this aspect and didn’t produce the beat-match like it had claimed. In an effort to compete with the more superior software programs, PDJ5 has attempted to implement these features. But in their efforts to improve quantity, they left behind much of the quality that their competition possesses.

Boasting its usefulness for retail stores, restaurants, and bars, prodj5 does have an automatic transitioning tool that grants quick transitioning between songs. However, to utilize this product for weddings, clubs or anywhere you are DJing would prove tragic.

Input/Output:

The interface sports a file tree to access all music on the computer and importing music is supposed to be simple with the drag and drop feature, if you can get the program to recognize the file. In attempting to access different music files from different drives, we found roadblocks in most avenues of music files. The importing of files from the CD drive failed miserably. The program didn’t recognize the music files from that drive, which proved to be incredibly frustrating.

This program, however, does claim to support MP3, OGG, WMA-DRM, WAV, and others. Additional audio formats may be supported with BASS add-ons. Plug-ins for FLAC, AAC and AC3 are available among many others.

PDJ5 also provides full support for most MIDI controllers.

Performance:

The performance from this program was sub-standard at best. There were several deterrents with music files, and the supposed real-time effects application was lagging. We were definitely not impressed with the performance of this product. With a few adjustments to file importing and with tweaking the effects reaction time, prodj5 could really become a competitor in this genre of electronic music creation.

Help/Support:

Where PDJ5 excels is in the support department. On their website, you will have access to a comprehensive FAQ, a specialized troubleshooting help, user manuals in PDFs, product updates, and a support team available via email request form. You will never be at a loss with all that is available with this much customer support.

Summary:

Demonstrating its weakness on the DJ software scene, it’s no wonder that we are ranking this site low on our list. However, we can see the potential in this DJ software program to really become a quality product with some improvements in performance, file recognition and its tools and features, prodj5 would really give the top contenders a run for their money.
