Nolan River chimney fire results in minor damage

A Wednesday chimney fire at a house in the 4300 block of Nolan River Road caused tiny damage, fire fighters said.

Cleburne fire fighters responded to the scene at 6:45 p.m. and met Rio Vista fire fighters who were already on scene.

Firefighters noted no signs of smoke or fire upon arrival.

The home owner stated the fire had been contained to the flue and that his son climbed on the roof to pour water down the chimney before fire fighters arrived.

A check of the rest of the house revealed no signs of fire extension.

Firefighters told the owner to call a chimney sweep to clean the chimney and check for signs of damage.

Investigation revealed that one set of heating elements on a furnace in a closet were hotter than the rest. The furnace cooled after fire fighters flipped a breaker switch.

The home owner stated a repairman had been out a day or two earlier and had replaced parts related to the overheated elements in question.

The home owner told fire fighters he had already called the repairman, who was on his way to correct the problem.
