Yet another promo video of the Eclair update for the XPERIA X10

Sony Ericsson is hard at work to finish the Android 2.1 Eclair update for the XPERIA X10. And also to create videos to promote it – this is the third instalment and it brings an overview of all the new features that the Eclair firmware will update.

While the previous videos were created by the Sony Ericsson Product Blog team, this one will eventually end up in the user support site for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10. It has a lot more polish than previous videos, though it doesn’t show much new information.

Here’s the summary – the camera will get 720p video recording with continuous autofocus, there are some changes to the UI (the lockscreen, 5 homescreens instead of 3, etc.), an improved keyboard and Timescape. There’s also a back-up and restore app. That plus the goodies inherent to Android 2.1, namely access to more apps (those that support only versions 2.1+) and Live wallpapers.

Keep in mind that the video is intended to be put up only after the update comes out and it hasn’t yet. So, do not get your hopes up when it mentions “if you have not updated yet” – there is still some testing to be finished before the new firmware is pushed out to Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 owners.

The caption “What’s new in Android 2.1?” is a bit ironic – considering for many phones the 2.1 Eclair update happened ages ago and some even come with 2.2 Froyo out of the box. Then again, updating the OS is never an simple task.

Last we have heard from Sony Ericsson, the XPERIA X10 update to Android 2.1 Eclair will happen next month.
