Sony SLT-A37
Preview based on a pre-production SLT-A37 with firmware v.0 With its usual alacrity, Sony has managed to release seven SLT models since it first launched the concept, in August 200. In that time, the range has expanded from two models to four and the A37 has a role to play in ensuring the line-up makes sense. Most consumers (understandably) care tiny about product differentiation but the A37 helps make Sony’s lineup more coherent than it’s been in a while – ...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V ($479) is a high-end superzoom camera that does just about everything imaginable. Whether you are speaking about its built-in GPS, 360 degree panorama maker, 10 fps burst shooting, instant HDR photos, or 1080/60p videos, the HX200V has almost every bell and whistle ever created. To top it off, it features the highest resolution sensor in a compact camera (18 Megapixel, which may or may not be a good thing) as well as one one of the ...
Leica M-Monochrom
Preview based on an M-Monochrom with Firmware 0.012 Leica has long been a manufacturer happy to exploit niche markets – its M9 may be a fascinating camera to shoot with, but the company’s adherence to the near-obsolete, manual focus rangefinder design, coupled with its distinctly exclusive pricing ensures its cameras will only ever be enjoyed by a few. However, we cannot think of any of its products that combine ‘fascinating’ and ‘niche’ as well as its latest creation – the ...

Nikon D3200
Preview based on a production Nikon D3200 Nikon has updated its entry-level DSLR offering with the addition of a 24MP CMOS sensor. This makes it equal to Sony’s A65, A77 and NEX-7 in offering the highest pixel count we have yet seen at the APS-C sensor size, and second only to the full-frame professional-grade D800 in Nikon’s entire range. The significant thing, though, is that it does so at a starting price of $699 (the same launch price as the ...
Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 (Lumix DMC-TZ30)
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 is a compact travel zoom camera with a pretty elaborate GPS setup. Not only does the ZS20 log your location, it also has a database of a million landmarks and maps of ninety countries. The ZS20 also packs a new 20X zoom lens, 14.1 Megapixel MOS sensor (which Panasonic states has less noise than the CCD used in the ZS10), super-fast autofocus, 10 frame/second continuous shooting, a great auto mode, in-camera panorama stitching, and Full HD ...
First Impressions: Using the Samsung NX20
On a recent trip to Samsung’s Seoul headquarters I got the opportunity to use the new NX20, and get a feel for how it performs. I only had a short time with a pre-production camera, but overall, my impressions of its handling and performance are very positive. Certainly, anyone who has used and liked the NX20′s predecessor, the NX10, will find tiny to complain about in the new model, and much that is very familiar. The NX20 sits at the ...
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150
12.1MP | 25-600mm (24X) Zoom | $499 £475 The Panasonic DMC-FZ150 CMOS-powered 24X superzoom is a replacement for the slightly unloved FZ100 and incorporates a lower-resolution 12MP sensor that the company states will outperform its predecessor’s 14MP chip. The camera retains a 25-600mm equivalent lens but now incorporating ‘Nano Surface Coating’ to mitigate the effects of internal reflections.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5
Preview based on a pre-production DMC-GF5 The GF5 is the fourth in Panasonic’s range of small-bodied ‘GF’ Micro Four Thirds cameras, and sits below the G3 in the current lineup. The differences between the GF5 and its predecessor are relatively few, and we doubt they will prove significant enough to tempt any GF3 users to upgrade. But they do combine to make the new camera a more attractive proposition to compact upgraders than the GF3.
